In the 1880s, McLoughlin Brothers offered multiple types of mechanical books.  Some popped up, others had pull tabs.  This Mother Goose volume was made up of illustrations with flaps.  Each flap could be folded back to show stages of the narrative.  Here Jack and Jill go up the hill to get water, and then tumble down to the bottom.
