McLoughlin Brothers took their competition seriously, especially when the quality was as high as this lovely ABC book.  Cincinnati-based publisher Peter Thomson ran a very successful bookshop and lithographic printing office. Knowing that McLoughlin Brothers was aware of his growing standing in the market for children’s books, the wily Thomson travelled to New York and offered to sell his entire business to McLoughlin. The deal allowed Thomson to retire in great comfort in Ohio.
