McLoughlin Brothers hired caricaturist Thomas Nast to illustrate a picture book version of The Night Before Christmas, which shaped forever our cultural image of Santa Claus.  Nast’s Santa is indeed the jolly old elf who navigates both snow and air with eight reindeer to deliver the Christmas goods.  An American classic.
