Thomas W. Strong and John McLoughlin, Jr. served together as apprentices.  Later, Strong issued a number of picture books for children as part of his own busy printing business, including several die cut shaped books. Posed with a shaped book in her lap, Grandma Cheerly echoes the image of Moses delivering the Ten Commandments, only in this case to a group of three attentive children.
