All of the Arkansas newspapers are scarce in this year’s adoptions. Like most southern newspapers these were vulnerable to the ravages of climate and war. The Van Buren Press began in 1859 and its editor, Joseph Dunham, continued to publish it for 48 years except for a 4-year hiatus during the Civil War due to lack of paper.
