Breaking News from Three Weeks Ago
The Daily Intelligencer (Atlanta, Georgia). July 26, 1863.
This Confederate newspaper contains the usual stories of battles and troop movements of the war. It has a frontpage article on the surrender of Vicksburg including information copied from northern newspapers. There is an interesting editorial about the women who flock to the Richmond Clothing Bureau for work as their men are away fighting the war. This bureau made uniforms for the troops and employed local women who needed to earn some money, but the demand greatly exceeded the positions available.
