Dr. Horace O. Conger and Dr. Caroline P. Crane, Prospectus for Obstetrics and Womanly Beauty. Chicago: American Publishing House, 1900.
Obstetrics and Womanly Beauty was written by two doctors, one male and one female. The prospectus claims this will be the first and only complete book on this subject ever sold by subscription. A pamphlet titled “Obstetrics (or the Treatment of Pregnancy) Scientifically Illustrated” is tucked into a pocket at the back of this salesman’s sample book. The illustrations were medical in nature, but keeping them separate from the book allowed modesty to be preserved.
