This account book, kept by J.W. Kingsley from 1851-1853, shows the active life of a student in Massachusetts. Kingsley attended school in Worcester – an entry in 1857 lists $7.00 as “Tuition at Worcester paid by mother,” and Kingsley pays $1.25 for “Fare to Worcester to school.” Throughout his account book he lists trips to various towns including Boston, Lowell, Webster and Providence, and lists candy, apples, cakes, haircuts and shampoos, quills, books, and stamps among his expenses.
