This fascinating diary was kept by a young Howard Stockton (b. 1842) while living in New York City and attending school in both New York and Rhode Island.  As an adult, Stockton was a lawyer, financier, and a trustee of the Boston Athenaeum and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  But as a 10 year old child, Stockton played cricket, went fishing and shooting, picked raspberries and caught bull frogs.  Coming from an affluent family, he travelled frequently as a child, including trips to Newport, Washington, D.C., and New York State.  This diary includes a description of a trip to Niagara Falls in 1855.

Adopted by Amy Richter and Jim Eber in honor of Simon Maxwell Eber
