Spirit Messenger and Harmonial Advocate (New York, New York). Oct. 16, 1852, vol. 1, no. 1.
This title is a continuation of The Spirit Messenger under the same editor, R. P. Ambler. Starting in 1848 with the Fox sisters in upstate New York, Spiritualism, or the belief of being able to communicate with the dead, grew into a major movement with a number of publications associated with it. Ambler started out as a Universalist minister but later became an advance lecturer for the Fox sisters. Under various titles the publication ran from 1850 to 1853.
