British writer Barbara Hofland (1770-1844) wrote this piece of travel literature about an English boy who travels to Egypt and the Holy Land; it reveals the Anglo-American fascination with Middle Eastern culture.  The top metal-engraved illustration shows an Egyptian woman throwing herself in front of a camel after her son dies; the bottom engraving depicts twin statues of the Colossi of Memnon.
