Images of female dunces are fairly rare in children’s books (boy dunces seem to corner the market), but here is a nice example of a naughty school girl standing on the dunce stool.  Not only does she have to stand on a special stool, she has to wear a grotesque mask bearing the sign “dunce,” no doubt serving as a dramatic reminder to her schoolmates.

Adopted by Cheryl McRell in honor of Carter, Daisy, Cora, Pearl, Peyton, and Hunter McRell
