Miller’s Harpoon (New Bedford, Massachusetts). Sept. 18, 1847, vol. 1, no. 1.
This is a previously unrecorded temperance newspaper. It has a nice illustrated masthead with a harpoon in an oval with the motto, “Ruled by no party. Our motto truth.” The second issue contained a note that due to the demand for the first issue, a second edition was printed. It is a typical temperance newspaper of the period with articles and poems about the evils of alcohol, local news and advertisements.
