Daniel Demuth (1835-1895) lived in Waldoboro, Maine.  This account book begins in 1853, when an 18-year-old Demuth recorded his daily work and wages paid. As the years pass Demuth’s entries become more detailed.  By 1860 he was repairing ploughs, working in a foundry, selling hay, and still hauling wood.  He also begins to list purchases, such as overalls, soap, and expenses for travel.  In the front of the volume Demuth lists his birth date - “Feb 13 1835 At half past eleven at night” and an update on his birthday –“Now 22 years old and weigh 192 lbs.”
