Roth & Goldschmidt began making corsets in New York in 1880. They entered an industry dominated by large firms such as Warner and Ball. In order to compete, they hired an advertising agency, a new concept at the time. The branding of R. & G. corsets included handbills (like this one), trade cards, window cards, and advertisements in women’s periodicals. This reseller sold the Fatigue Corset in the standard colors of drab (tan), white, black…and a more risqué cardinal red.
