Feed the Chickens, Feed the World
ABC Book I. [United States?: s.n., ca. 1850]
When we acquired this copy of ABC Book I, a charming piece of mid-nineteenth-century color relief printing, we discovered that we do have a very similar ABC Book, but with a bit of a twist; it had no number. The new copy also has verse captions with its images, while the copy already at AAS had images without captions. In this example of the girl and the chickens, the caption fleshes out the story of the girl: her name is Lina, and not only does she take care of the chickens, but she will generously give from “her little savings” to any child needing food.
