The color frontispiece titled “Home Made Happy” depicts a father reading to a gathered family from a book with “Golden Sheaves” typed across its blank pages. Within the actual volume of Golden Sheaves are selections from a veritable Who’s Who of 19th century authors popular in America: Lyman, Beecher, Carlyle, Cooper, Child, Emerson, Holland, Irving, Jefferson, Longfellow, Martineau, More, Theodore Parker, Percival, Sedgwick, Sigourney, Tuckerman, Walton, Webster, &c.
