Phunny Phellow. For the Month of March. New York, 1864.

Catalog Record | Enlarge Image | Adopt a Book Home

This advertising sheet for the comic monthly the Phunny Phellow features a large woodcut caricature. The image was probably cut by Joseph W. Morse, an experienced wood engraver in New York whose work often appeared on circus posters. The audience for the Phunny Phellow was primarily male, and, while some of the content was political in nature, most of the stories were fictional and somewhat risqué.
