Clearing out overstock of books takes creative marketing.  In the 19th century, discounted titles were offered to wholesalers, donated to charities, or sent out to be pulped.  This handbill records another strategy – offering discounted books in combination with cheap jewelry.  Meant to attract female consumers, the event paired watches, pins and earrings with classics such as Pilgrim’s Progress and Robinson Crusoe.
