Shaped Like a Little Girl
Little Girl’s Book. New York: McLoughlin Bros., 1896.
This delightful shaped book is a splendid example of a picture book marketed to little girls. Many of the stories and poems within it feature girls, such as “The Tea Party,” and “Jessie’s Christmas.” Perhaps the most immediate selling point of the book is the cover, with its chubby-cheeked little girl bedecked in cozy Christmas green and red. Apparently, this book was marketed as the pair with the shaped book, The Bicycle Boy.
