With AAS being the home of the New Nation Votes project, election returns are always an exciting find, whether in newspapers, or in this case, a handwritten tally sheet. This single sheet shows an “Aggregate list of votes for Representatives to the 13th Congress” in Vermont in 1813. The tally sheet breaks down voters by county, and the top columns show the candidates. Twelve men ran for the seat, and the results were close – the winner was Richard Skinner with 16,026 votes, beating out his closest opponent by only 21 votes.
