Haydn’s Greatest Work for Piano, American Style
Haydn’s Celebrated Andante, Philadelphia: George Willig, 1812-1815.
Before the invention of lithography, sheet music was engraved on copperplates and printed in small batches. Reversal errors were common and publishers and performers often complained about the quality of the notes on the page. This Haydn tune, with complex fingering requirements, has been annotated by a former owner.
