My Paper is Behind Time
Lot of Book Trade Related Receipts, 1812-1881.
This group includes receipts for subscriptions to a wide range of titles such as the Kennebec Journal, Lincoln County News, New England Farmer, Erie City Dispatch, and American Masonic Register. The receipts show that a typical yearly subscription cost anywhere from $1.00 - $3.00. The earliest receipt, from 1812, is for the $2.00 paid to advertise in the Albany Register for three months. Also included are a number of postal cards, some with printed messages and advertisements, some with personal handwritten messages – “My paper is behind time; but your advertisement will be in the next number…”
