Dual frontispieces provide sensational introductions to this miscellaneous publication: one of a woman lounging on a fainting couch and one of a black man and white woman kissing under the heading, “Emancipationists! Amalgamationists!! Insurrectionists!!!” The book is a hodge-podge of texts, including verse, prose descriptions of life in Woonsocket – referred to as “The Rome of America!” -- and various translations from the best French, Spanish and Italian writers.
