After a photograph by Black & Batchelder, City of Worcester, Mass. (Boston: J.H. Bufford's Lithography; published by D.B. Tarr, 1864).
This view of Worcester was made at the end of the Civil War. It shows a prosperous city, with smoke stacks, church steeples and public buildings. Batchelder, one half of the photographic team that made the image the print is based on, was well known for his images of urban landscapes. He made bird’s-eye style prints of twenty different towns in Massachusetts between 1854 and 1864.
